So… here we go, our first Djeco art kit review. We’ve chosen the Djeco Scratch Boards. There are 2 different styles in these kids art kits, but the one we have completed is the ‘Crimson Elves’, however the other set is equally gorgeous and is called ‘Halcyon Nights’.
They are small kits retailing at £7.99. The kit comes in an envelope style packet that measures 23cm x 23cm and will fit easily into a Jiffy bag and could be sent as a large letter via Royal Mail.
The set includes 4 ready to complete scratch boards; 1 wooden stylus; and a booklet that gives VERY clear instructions that are very simple for young children to follow.
When I say young… the recommended age is from 7 years. I would probably say that the set is better suited to 8 years plus though.
I have to say, when we saw these in the shop the first time we were fairly unimpressed with them. However, we had a delivery where one of the sets outer packaging was damaged, so we decided to do the set – and it’s fabulous. Now that we have completed the scratch boards, we can’t keep them in stock. We show the customer the results and they buy sets straight away.
Basically the printed scratch boards have outlined ready printed and gorgeous ‘enchanted’ faces ready painted – so all we were having to do was the design side of things really.
The step-by-step instructions guide you logically on how to reveal the stunning colours underneath the printed surface which you do with the wooden stylus. In the beginning I was using the thin end all the time, but this did become slightly annoying for large areas of scratching, so I ended up using the reverse end of the stylus to scratch away large areas – it worked really well.
I would say that each card takes about 30-45 minutes depending on a childs speed and concentration. I would also recommend getting your child to cover areas of the scratch card that they are leaning on as the painted surface will scratch is you accidentally rub it.
Now this is the clever thing with Djeco – if you have a child who likes to follow instructions and do exactly as the booklet shows, then you end up with beautiful results. If however, your child is more of a freestyle artist or designer (my daughter Abby is), then you can crack on with your own patterns and design on the Djeco Scratch Board. It’s that flexible.
And the results… unbelievable!!! As I said, when we show the results to customers they buy sets immediately and get really excited. And they’re only £7.99.
So, if you like what you see, then why not give Hullabaloo a call on 01625 525382- they can take payment over the phone (postage is £2.50 for small sets) and get them out to you really quickly. Another Djeco art set that ensure fantastic and beautiful results for your kids who love arts and crafts!
